What is “The Black Elephant”?

A black elephant is a risk or opportunity that is large, visible, and known ignored not because it cannot be seen, but because acting on it requires the room to change something it has decided not to change. Unlike a black swan, it does not surprise. It compounds. This Substack is built on one question: what are we pretending not to see?

What we do here

We look at the world, its crises, its industries, its institutions, its everyday decisions and ask the question most rooms avoid. Not what is making noise. What is the noise covering? Every piece on this Substack uses The Black Elephant framework to identify what is being systematically ignored, name it precisely, and put a spotlight on it.

Join the Tribe of Tuskers

We are looking for a “Tribe of Tuskers” - people with the wisdom, experience, and courage to name what their world is looking away from. If you can see a black elephant in your industry, your institution, or your community, something of real consequence that is being ignored while the rooms around it stay busy, this is where you bring it. Spot it. Name it. Help build the spotlight and The Action Plan.

Stay up-to-date as we spot New Black Elephant.
